Current Operational Capacity

Despite limited resources, Institute of Skin Diseases Sindh Karachi has witnessed an exponential growth in the number of the patients. Being a public sector organization we are not charging any fee and most of the drugs are made available to the patients without any charge. Our out-patient department is served by 65⁺ doctors, who are available 06 days/week and are fully trained from various Institutions and training centers in the country. We have more than 14 qualified Dermatologists and one plastic surgeon. Most of the patients visit from Karachi but there is a growing population of patients from other parts of the Sindh and rest of Country.

Many important procedures are being performed efficiently by our experienced doctors like Nail Extraction, Electro Cautery, Fulguration, Cryo Therapy, Phototherapy (PUVA Therapy, Narrow band UVB), Procedures like Skin Biopsies (Incisional & Excisional, Punch Biopsy).

National Health Services (NHS) in United Kingdom has been voted as the best health care system in the civilized world. Treatment provided to patients is free of cost. This is provided on the basis of patients needs regardless of color, creed, religion, race or ability to pay.

Saint john’s Dermatology Institute in London will be a good model to follow which is world leader in provision of health care to patients with skin diseases and serves as a tertiary referral centre for NHS patients in United Kingdom. They have a dedicated laboratory served by several dermatopathologists who report on skin biopsies, have facilities of immunoflorescence in autoimmune and bullousa diseases and have electron microscopes. They have dedicated multidisciplinary skin cancer meeting (MDT’s) for management strategy.
