FUNGAL INFECTION

Fungal Infections are a huge disease burden in our population and is growing at fast rate. Underlying factors include increasing number of patients with diabetes mellitus, malnutrition, lack of immunity, poor hygiene, improper use of medicines (lack of compliance) & over use of topical corticosteroids which results in growing resistance to oral antifungal. Below are the fungals infection which are treated at skin hospital.

LEISHMANIASIS

This is spread by bite of sand fly and is a debilitating condition. Once diagnosis of organism is made we are providing injection glucantime, free of cost to the patients in collaboration with WHO.

CUTANEOUS TUBERCULOSIS

Different varieties of cutaneous tuberculosis are diagnosed & treated by systemic therapy.

LEPROSY

These patients are referred to Marie Adelaide leprosy center, whose pioneer was Dr. Ruth Pfau.

AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES

Autoimmune diseases like SLE, systemic sclerosis, MCTD (mixed connective tissue disease), sjogren syndrome, dermatomyositis & vitiligo are diagnosed clinically & with multiple laboratory tests including biopsy in collaboration with SIUT, AKU & ESSA. These diseases are treated by either admitting patient in our ward or are managed as out patient with regular follow-ups, depending upon patient health status.

SKIN CANCERS

Cutaneous malignancies such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma are diagnosed by biopsy and referred to a surgical facility. The biopsy of suspicious lesion are done in our minor operation theatre by plastic surgeon & sent for histopathology to SIUT. We have a fully equipped theater with sterilization facility.

INFLAMMATORY SKIN DISEASES

Inflammatory dermatoses such as Lichen Plannus, Lichen Sclerosis, Eczema, Psoriasis etc are treated as per international guidelines.

INTRODUCTION

Indoor unit is 50 bedded, which includes 2 female & 3 male wards, which are supervised by an incharge (senior doctor) and Co-Incharge (senior staff). Daily morning rounds are conducted by senior consultants & assigned doctors regarding any change of medication, management of disease & reassurance. All type of dermatological cases admitted here are those that cannot be treated on outpatient basis. This unit also provide routine investigation.

ADMISSION PROTOCOL

  • Patient admitted via the reference of chief dermatologist & senior consultant.
  • OPD slip, CNIC number, contact number, one attendant is prerequisite for admission.
  • There is proper allocation of file & bed number to particular patient.
  • Medical records of patients are properly kept.
  • Attendant are allowed to see patient in visiting hours.

FACILITIES

  • The patients are timely provided with topical & systemic medication by our staff.
  • Emergency medicine trolley, oxygen cylinder wheelchair & ambulance are always ready on hand.
  • There is a minor OT inside our ward which is fully equipped for minor surgical processes.
  • Hygienic foods are timely provided from hospital kitchen round the clock.
  • Wards are ventilated, clean properly on daily basis.
  • Most of the wards are equipped with air conditioners, television & refrigerator facility.
  • Mosquitos repellent are also provided to prevent patient from vector borne diseases
  • Wards are cleaned on daily basis & have 24 hours geyser facility.
