Future Strategies

Institute of Skin Diseases Sindh Karachi is pursuing the policy that healthcare should be provided to every patient with the skin diseases. This Institution is dealing with a population of a million patients from all over Pakistan. Department of a Health and Sindh Government is very helpful but we need an enhancement of our Budget. However, there are other material things that can be done to improve health care provisions through our Institutions, these are:-

  • Opening of Satellite Dermatology Centers in other Districts General Hospitals in Sindh and beyond.
  • Our Institute needs help both financial and technical assistance from government of Sindh to improve the delivery of the healthcare to our patient population.
  • IT Infra Structure to create a paperless hospital in the heart of Karachi. The dedicated IT team gathering data on disease profile of around 01 million skin disease patients will help understand the epidemiology, prognosis, pattern of communicable diseases, and formulate health strategy for the province. This data will be a treasure for researchers and post-graduate students who can carry out their MSC, M.phil, PHD projects and this Institute may finally be upgraded to a Research Institute and develop Collaboration with other leading centers of Dermatology in the world. This will attract investment and scientists to the center.
  • Incarcerator for Clinical waste management is required.
  • A water filtration plant is required for the Provision of clean and safe drinking water for patients and staff.
  • Laser is the ray of hope in the dark islands of Dermatology. It is required in the management of many difficult Dermatological Cases. For which complete set of all important laser is required.
  • Laboratory needs to be upgraded to have culture and sensitivity, PCR, Species identification Specially of Fungus, Mycobacterium AFB and other bacterias. Dermatopathology is also required along with immunofluorescence (Direct and Indirect).
  • Since the population and patients have increased many folds in the last 3-5 decades we need to revise the strength of Consultants, Doctors, Para Medical Staff for the sake of better management of Skin patients.
  • Our institute receives a large number of patients with systemic disease with skin symptoms. This requires a holistic approach to patient management. We require dedicated sessions from Rheumatologists, Diabetologists, Microbiologists, Plastic Surgeons, Radiologists, Oncologists, Paedritian and Physiotherapists. This staff can be paid or work as volunteers.
  • We can provide space to WHO for their Vertical Programmes, such as T.B, AIDS, Hepatitis B, C, Dengue, Leishmaniasis etc.

Our aim should be to create a state of Art Dermatology Institute in the heart of Karachi dealing with patients from entire Pakistan.
